All of Taylor is in the Taylor School District, so the rate is the same on every street. Michigan resets a home's taxable value the year after a sale, so check your own number with the uncapping calculator before you make an offer. The full breakdown is on the Taylor tax page.
What does Taylor require when you buy a home?
Every change of ownership in Taylor needs a city Certificate of Occupancy before the new owner moves in. It is not transferable, so each buyer needs a new one; ask the Building Department (734-287-6550) about the inspection and timing early in your contract.
If you plan to rent the house out, Taylor requires rental homes to be registered ($200 once) and inspected every three years ($250), and a rental that changes owners must be re-registered and re-inspected. The city also requires a backflow (cross-connection) inspection at every home under state law.
What about Taylor's water and lead lines?
Taylor exceeded the state's 12 ppb lead action level in its 2025 sampling, with a 90th-percentile result of 16 ppb, and the city confirms it has some lead service lines. Its inventory counts 115 lead lines out of about 19,500, and the city publishes the street addresses, so you can check a specific house.
The city offers a free site visit to identify a home's service line material (DPW, 734-287-6550, option 8). Until you know, the city advises flushing taps before drinking, using only cold water for drinking and cooking, and using a filter certified to NSF/ANSI 53 for lead. Ask about the service line during your inspection period.
